A quick service on my aunts 2004 Yaris 1.0 VVTi as it hits 60,000 miles
For this service it has just had its spark plugs changed, a new air filter, and an oil and filter change. There might be a fuel filter to change, but my aunt just supplied me with the parts i said would be needed for the service and the motrofactors she went to had no fuel filters. I think the yaris is like the clio in that it does not actually have a fuel filter which needs to be replaced. This may of course be different depending on the country the car is sold to but this yaris is a french built yaris that was originally sold in the republic of ireland and it has been re registered in northern ireland in 2011.
Apologies about no footage for the oil filter removal part, i forgot to press record on the camera, but there are a number of ways to get oil filters off; use an oil filter tool, use water pump pliers as i did here as the filter is small enough to get a grip on it, in some cases mainly on my 406 i have removed the oil filter by piercing it with a screwdriver and using the screwdriver as a handle to turn the filter.
The spark plugs used were NGK spark plugs, with spark plugs its best to stick with the good brands such as NGK, Denso or Bosch. You can choose weather on not to put copper grease on the plugs but as far as I’m aware they have some sort of anti seize coating on them.
When tightening the spark plugs its possible to judge when they are tight enough with a bit of experience but if your not sure i put the torque number in the video.
5w/30 oil was put in the car, this is what the motor factors gave for this engine.
There wasn’t very much to service on the car, its certainly a much easier and nicer engine to work on than the renault 1.2 in the clio, i didn’t change the coolant in the car as it was replaced in december when the car had its radiator bust in a minor crash, there is a timing chain and the auxiliary belt was in good condition.
