https://facebook.com/jenncofit As a newly single lady, I am determined to try new things and tackle new DIY (do-it-yourself) projects around my house. Today, I decided it was time to remove the old, dirty, holey, stained and stinky carpet from my workout room so I can replace it with rubber gym flooring! Having never done this type of home improvement project before, much less BY MYSELF, I did what anyone would do… call for help? NOPE! I just Googled it, went to Lowe’s to buy the necessary supplies and headed in there with my camera to document it all. I’m happy to report that I was able to remove the carpet, padding and staples from the sub-flooring in about 3 hours. And that includes hauling the old carpet to the dump.
What you’ll need: protective eye wear and a face mask (trust me – the dust and dander and filth does NOT belong in your eyes, nose or throat), something to pry up carpet and staples (I just used a small paint spackling tool) and work gloves. Make sure you have a sharp utility knife with extra blades. This is KEY. You’ll also need a broom and/or shop vac to remove all the extra dirt, dust and filth that’s under the carpet and pad after it’s removed.
To start, just find a corner that you can pry up and start ripping. Fold the carpet over into about 3 or 4 foot segments and use your utility knife to cut it into squares. This makes it SO much easier to remove from the house and haul to the dumpster. After removing all the carpet, just rip up the strips of carpet padding and remove. Finally, pry up all the staples that are still stuck to the sub-floor. Vacuum/sweep and you’re done!
Stay tuned for my next video where I will install rubber gym flooring in this room!
