Simple DIY Torque Wrench Test

This is the simplest way to test a torque wrench with no special tools just:

a. Torque wrench (Tekton 2432 1/4″)
b. Bolt to anchor it (used a bolt on the bike frame)
c. 2 empty gallon jugs (or some other known weight)
d. hook to attach weight (here I used a coat hanger and an S hook.)

If you want to test if ur inch pound wrench works use the following simple formula

Torque = Length * Weight
inch-#s inches pounds

(If you’re testing a FOOT-pound wrench, just measure the length in FEET)

In this test this wrench with 2 gal water jugs:

torque 166= 9.5″ * 17.5#

Torque / Weight = Length
inch-#s pounds inches

Rule of thumb 1 US Gallon of water = ~ 8.35 lb.
