We will do video on installing Gravity Fed Drip Irrigation System
It is relatively new system in India for last 30 – 40 years
This system is useful in growing more yield using less water
Though this system is usually used in agricultural irrigation
It is also useful for Kitchen Garden Irrigation
This Gravity Fed Drip Irrigation System saves on two most scarce commodity with People living in Cities
Firstly it saves on water and Secondly it save time by Automating the process of watering the plant
You see bellow various component and accessories used in this system
First you require a suitable size water tank to store water
We bought recycled 60 liter drum for our Kitchen Garden Drip Irrigation System
We need to drill a hole to attach main water line to the drum
Main water Line is 16 mm pipe used is a black colour specially designed drip irrigation pipe
But we will use commonly used water pipe available with us
In case this pipe is not successful then we will switch to special designed drip irrigation pipe
Let now discuss components and designing of Gravity Irrigation System
As discussed we will attach main water line to this 60 liter drum
This main line from drum will carry water to potted plants
We will attach 4 mm feeder line to main water line for dripping water to pots
The main water line have width of 16mm
The feeder pipe width is 4mm inside diameter
This feeder pipe will be connected to main water pipe coming from drum to pot
Using 4 mm connector
The sharp end of this 4 mm connector goes into main water line
We need to punch hole in main water line using a Palm Punch Hole maker
We will insert 4 mm connector from the pointed side to the hole made in main water pipe
You can use a pliers to force connector into main water line
Now we have 4 mm connector fixed to main water line and feeder pipe can be attached to it like this
Now this main water line pipe will carry water till pots and a feeder pipe will drip water to pots from main line
As name suggesting Drip Irrigation System uses water drops to slowly irrigate the plants
To lower the pressure of water coming from main line to feeder line
We add a drip emitter at the end of feeder pipe
This emitter spear like front is pushed into soil and hole at its back allows water drops through it
When emitter is inserted into 4mm feeder pipe it hole get covered which allow only water drops to come out of it
This way this 60 liter water filled drum can continuously irrigate pots drop by drop for hours
This will stop wastage of water saves on time and insure day long moisture to plants
