In this video a bead inside a living macrophage is trapped and moved in all directions.
Macrophages were exposed to a concentrated bead solution for at least twelve hours. Due to phagocytosis the beads were partly engulfed by the cell membrane. One of the engulfed particles is trapped with the optical tweezers and manipulated inside the living cell. To demonstrate that the bead is really inside the cell and not above or below it, the focus is slowly altered in z-direction. By taking a closer look at the cell structure, one can nicely see, that the cell structure moves together with the cell.
