OKI International MX 5241 Tweezer for 0201 Rework
From the video:
In this video we will describe the setup and operation of the MX PTZ tweezer hand piece for the removal of 0201 components.
The supplied stands with the MX allow for tip and tweezer tip storage. Installing the tweezer tips is easy: simply slide them directly into the tweezer assembly. Once the tips are inserted you can adjust the alignment by using the neural knobs at the bottom of each tip. One adjust length and the other adjusts the horizontal plane of the tips.
This combination of adjustments allows the precise alignment needed for 0201 component removal.
Once the tips are aligned and heated you can use the supplied sponge for tip cleaning. You will notice the slots in the sponge which allow you to clean both side of the tips simultaneously.
Tin the tips with the solder approved for your facility and you’re ready to go. In this video we used a PTZ 100 convection free heater to reduce the thermal shock to the PCB and components.
Simply align the tips to the sides of your component and squeeze the hand pice. This squeezing action will melt the solder and secure the component for easy removal. Use the sponge to remove the component from the tips. NEVER bang the tips to dislodge the parts.
Prior to replacement you can apply gel or tacky flux to aid with the positioning of the part as well as removing oxidation. A mechanical tweezer and optical aid should be used for positioning the component. You may need two probes to move the part into position.
You can solder the part with your metcal advanced hand piece using a fine tip. When hand soldering, make sure you contact the pad and not the component edge. This helps eliminate component cracking. Use of the under board pre heater is essential for this operation.
As your operators skills increase they’ll be tempted to remove and replace with the MX PTZ. This technique is only approved for zero Ohm or shorting components as damage to multi layer parts may occur.
