North Korean man crosses border to defect to S. Korea

A North Korean man in his early twenties defected to South Korea early Sunday.
Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the man was spotted at the northern part of the mouth of the Han River in Gimpo, and he is now being questioned by the military to find out what led him to flee.
A South Korean soldier using nightvision equipment found the man crossing the river and followed standard procedures for handling defectors.
The soldier guided the man to safety, confirmed his intention to defect and secured him in custody.
His defection comes less than a week after a North Korean soldier defected to South Korea last Tuesday.
