Mini Cooper S – R53 replacing CV joint boot

Replacing the CV joint boot is a complex job requires a removal of multiple components just to get the axle out. It is necessary to have a service manual and follow the instructions. There is a risk of damaging components if proper tools are not used.

Joint ball in the steering control arm to steering knuckle, unbolt but release the nut but don’t remove it, lease it on the end of the bolt, use a joint ball tool and the nut will protect the tread. When it pops it is going to make a big POP sound.

Use a 90 degree plier to remove the C clamp then use a three arm puller to remove the CV joint. I use a 24mm socket to put the CV joint back and a hammer in soft steps. The flat side of CV joint needs to be in the outside.

It is necessary to have a CV joint plier to be able to put the proper pressure on the CV joint clamps.
