Milling Billet Aluminum Pistol Grips DIY CNC Part 1: Profile



In this series I go through the different machining strategies and techniques for milling billet pistol grips; these are for a 1911.

Machine made with TUFNOL (phenolic), Misumi 3060 extrusions milled flat, and aluminum plate. Linear rails are THK SHS15s. Leadscrews are McMaster 1/2″-8, 2-start (4TPI). Anti-backlash nuts from DumpsterCNC. Couplers are Ruland. Stepper motors are Danaher (Kollmorgen) CTP series, 200in-oz. Drive is GexkoDrive G540, powered by 48V PSU, assembled by DeepGroove1. Controller and USB interface is EdingCNC’s USBCNC4A. Router is DeWalt 1-1/4HP, controlled by SuperPID. Computer is Dell Precision M6300. Table extrusions from Techno-Isel.
