How to Use the Stainless Steel Screw Covers

This frame is warranted for as long as you own it, but it’s helpful if you register for the warranty so we have a record of your Amazon order number, so please do that. Inside the package, you’ll find a small bag of four screws. Because there’s so many variations between all the different automobile manufacturers, we chose one of the most popular sizes.
It may or may not fit your car, but if you need to go to the hardware store, they cost pennies. These are good stainless steel screws. They shouldn’t rust. We couldn’t provide so many different variations. We got the most popular size there for you.
Okay, so inside, we got the frame. And also, you got these little, plastic -what we call screw covers. You can push them out of the plastic bubble thing with your finger or thumb, and what you have here is two pieces. You take something pointed like the screw, and then you can pry that right out of there easily.
That’s what I call a little cup washer. It’s got the hole in it, and the screw goes through that hole, and you place that on the face of your new frame, and you fasten that to your vehicle. And once that’s done, you can place this screw cover over the top of that. It should snap on there snugly.
Now, what I can tell you is we had a quality problem with these things. We identified a problem with some, not all. And we investigated that and did some testing, and we found that there was a certain batch we could trace it back to, and they got out into the marketplace, and they shouldn’t have. So some people got those.
What we decided to do is we’re actively planning a postcard campaign right now to reach out to those who have bought our frames, and we’re going to give everyone the option of receiving these new stainless steel screw covers, which are much more robust and they match the durability of the license plate frame.
And, they are considered theft resistant. They are considered semi-permanent. Although it’s semi-permanent, that doesn’t mean it’s permanent. They will not come apart easily. Somebody is not going to walk down the street with your license plate, but they’ll come apart. They won’t rust.
They are going to take a little finesse to get apart, and I understand that not everyone is as handy as the next guy or girl, but I can also tell you that any garage mechanic worth his salt can get that apart without any problem. What’s going to happen, I suspect, is over time, driving down wet roads all the road dirt and grime is going to wash up inside there. It’s going to become stiff. It’s not going to want to come apart.
So once that is fastened to your vehicle, then you take the cover part of it, which fits not over, but within the circumference of the cup washer, and you’re going to want to—you might take a couple of tries, but you’ve got to get it on there square. If it’s cocked, it’s not going to go.
What will help is if you have a pair of slip joint pliers, or pipe pliers. Channel Locks is a brand name or any kind of slip joint pliers. If it starts in there crooked, have a pair of pliers handy to get that apart so you can try it again. It’ll go together, and it’ll go together square.
Just take a little time and get it right, and when you’re done it’ll dress it up quite nicely. Also understand that it’s not going to go all the way in. It goes in a certain amount, and then it stops. They shouldn’t come off easily after that –meaning you won’t lose them going down the road. They will come off with a little finesse, like I said.
