A holographic optical tweezers system controlled using a Kinect. The user is able to move the trapped particle (a microscopic glass bead) by moving their hand. In this preliminary video the particle can be locked in place and then picked up again, with, for example, the user’s other hand.
In the video, the user is shown on the left with a red dot denoting the trapped particle. The particle motion is shown on the left. When the particle is locked the kinect continues to monitor the hand position as a black dot, and overlaying this with the trapping position enables the particle to be picked up again.
