This is a quick and dirty method to make a spring in the home shop using just a drill press and piece of dowel. NOTE: this method can be dangerous, so safety and precaution is of utmost importance. Using spring wire or music wire and a low-rpm (200 or less) drill (or lathe), it is easy to turn a compression or tension spring using a dowel / mandrel!
