Homemade Bar Clamp

Being short of some longer clamps I decided to make some homemade barclamps to help in some upcomming projects. The design of these clamps are basically a modified version of John Heisz wooden bar clamp which you can see here…

I have changed it around some combining a design I came up with a while back which didnt quit work out, utilizing his jaw mecanism instead of my own.

Again its mainly made from salvaged materials namely 12mm baltic birch ply scraps, pine off cuts, 25mm box section steel from an old table frame, sycamore branch, an old circular saw gaurd and some hard ware which I bought.

I hadn’t planned on painting it so this was a bit of an after thought when I realized I had some hammerite (rust treating paint) as the bars were very pitted with rust.

These worked out very well, really solid lots of clamping pressure and a small profile. I’m delighted with how they work and plan on producing many more
