Under previous ownership of my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac someone had used vise grips or pliers on the fuel connector. After making this video I cut the tube end of the filter off and discovered that one of the 3 tabs (or tangs) inside the connector to lock it onto the filter was bent. No amount of lubricant or forcing a disconnect tool would have helped. The replacement connectors made by Dorman sold at all parts store DIDN’T WORK! I test fitted a new filter onto a Dorman connector with the built-in release. The connector would not come back off of the filter. I ended up scavenging the fuel line off of a 2003 Sport Trac bought do for a scrap yard. This fuel line is no longer made by Ford and used to cost $340something new. I got mine for $20.
No matter how hard or stubborn your fuel line may be to remove NEVER use pliers or vise grips on your fuel line connectors.
