Daith Ear Cartilage Piercing

Watch as Jen gets a daith ear piercing.

Money shot: look for the needle insertion at about 0:22.

First, the piercer cleans the daith area thoroughly, then marks some guidelines in the ear to show where the piercing will lay. After Jen gives her approval, a hollow needle receiving tube is moved into place, and with the needle at the ready she’s instructed to breathe in and exhale deeply. The hollow piercing needle is pushed through and corked, then chased with a ball captive ring that’s carefully closed off through the use of special jewelry pliers. A quick final cleanup and some aftercare instruction, and Jen is ready to rock with her new daith piercing, adding to an already beautiful ear mod collection.

Daith piercings are a contemporary piercing that was first performed in 1992 by piercing legend Erik Dakota. They’ve come along way since then, and are now worn with a large variety of primarily circular jewelry such as BCRs, horseshoes, and clickers.
