Here i’m unboxing a pair of G clamps made by Blackspur, model no CL101. In the set you get 2 clamps, 1x 1″ and 1 x 2″ in red.
I purchased these as an ‘add on’ from Amazon for only £2.00p! So are they worth the £2? Lets see….
Well for £2 i think they are very good value, they have some weight to them, they seem hardy enough for small DIY tasks. On winding the 1″ down I noticed inside a little corrosion, which was very slightly disturbing, then winding it up again i realised the entire fitting wasn’t straight and true. Now it’s not going to deter the basic home DIY’er, but if you are a tradesman these won’t be any good for you, especially when you need precise even pressure when it clamps down on your work piece.
The 1″ clamp will almost definitely cut in one side if you’re clamping down on wood. The 2″ was straight though and no corrosion. On winding them both G Clamps had little resistance, so you can wind them down quickly with one finger, i get a great deal of satisfaction from this, don’t ask me why!
Now if i was going to use these clamps in a project, i’d probably place a piece of card/plastic between the work piece and the clamps, just to protect your work piece from damage.
Taking the wonky 1″ clamp and the small area of corrosion into consideration, i still think this set is really good value, a g clamp is a must for any tool arsenal and for the price of a cheap pasty, you’ll have a trusty basic tool at your disposal for many years. Tool keep the corrosion under control i’d probably recommend a light wipe down with wd40 or 3in1 oil to keep the corrosion at bay.
