1995 Jeep Cherokee Transmission Line Repair

2013 the year of the damn transmission lines!

THE PLAN TODAY
Today I planned to do cut the lines and like all the transmission mechanics told me they was going to do if I paid them to do it was cut the lines and reconnect with transmission hoses and double clamp them. Well hell, who do you think you are talking to, steal away. I do it myself as I do most of the work on my vehicle.

DECIDED DIFFERENTLY
When I took the lines off I figured there is not much rubber on these lines [combination of rubber and steel lines], so I changed my mind and did a trouble shoot attempt, as in trying something else before I cut. I neoprene tape all threaded connections. I seen a partially collapsed section that I decided to compress with vice-grips to open and it worked and I wiped to see if there was a break, did not appear to be any. Installing the lines are stressful on the lines for they are mostly shaped steel tubes so that might made the end result.

THE END RESULT
I went to the auto store close by to replenish the lost tranny fluid and seen I left a trail. That partial collapse is now fully compromised. I will get back under it tomorrow.

THE HISTORY
2/13 – took to transmission place to get lines rebuilt and they put a nut on and charged me $175 for that.

3, 4 or 5/13 – took lines to hydraulic hose maker and they made more connections in the lines for they do not have in stock or make the vehicle connectors, different for all types of cars and hydraulic lines are quite similar. Thinking outside the box. $120 lesson.

7/13 – won small claims court on that and not yet paid, but I placed a lien on all his properties, bout 11 properties.

11/13 – The saga continues!

TRYING TO AVOID
Dealership, these two lines cost over $400, together. I’m damn near there now, huh. I’ve fixed air leaks in lines easier than this! The issue with cutting the lines is having to secure the lines in many more places than it needs securing now. I think I will incorporate the flexible galvanized steel electrical wire conduit on the under body or near moving parts, this will also add firmness to the line for the type of driving I do.
