We take a look at the updated Leatherman Surge multi-tool. The already great and proven Surge gets upgraded with the plier heads previously only seen on the Supertool 300 multi tool. In addition to this the new Surge has a metal thumb rest for the scissors and unfortunately they removed the eyeglass driver and replaced it with a small flathead screwdriver. This updated tool also has a few minor improvements to the mechanisims to make things operate a little smoother. All in all a great tool. If you have can find both tools at the same price I call this a toss-up but if you have to pay more for the new tool at your local store compared to the original it’s a tough call. If you don’t use the wire cutters all that much and like the small screwdriver of the original I think that tool is still an excellent choice for your heavy duty multi tool needs.
