El Camino small block Chevy extra capacity Oil Filter.
When changing the oil on your small block Chevy 350, 305, 327, or 283 it is a smart idea to use the larger capacity oil filter. Most people will look up the oil filter on the cart and use whatever is OEM or recommended but in almost every situation you can use the larger capacity (volume) oil filter that is used in the small block Chevy in trucks. It is always a good idea to have a little extra oil capacity in the engine. Here is another tip. If you are having a problem removing a stuck oil drain plug because the oil drain plug is rounded off, use Channel Lock pliers versus vice-grips. The Channel-Lock pliers will grip a rounded off oil drain plug much better than vice-grips and you will get that stuck oil drain plug loose. For this oil change I am using Castrol Edge extended performance 0W-40 oil with titanium FST. It pays to use quality oil because quality oil is much cheaper than replacing worn out engine parts. On the bottom of the extra-large, high capacity oil filter I am using a large neodymium magnet to catch any microscopic metal in the oil.
